Our mission is to enrich & empower the lives of all, within wider communities of mining operations.

Our foundation will serve as a complement to the already world-class ESG initiatives undertaken by SMO member mines.

By strategically directing resources and fostering partnerships, we aim to enhance and amplify the transformative effects of these existing endeavours, ensuring a more sustainable and equitable future for all.

Elevate & Enhance

OBJECTIVES

We aim to elevate environmental conservation, social equity, and healthcare access in these regions, & will focus on the following key areas:

1. Environmental Conservation:

Working with SMO member mines to implement projects aimed at preserving biodiversity, mitigating climate change, and promoting sustainable land use. Amplification of existing conservation efforts will foster a more resilient ecosystem and minimize environmental impacts.

2. Social Empowerment:

Supporting initiatives that promote gender equality, access to education and healthcare, economic empowerment, and social inclusion in the wider mining communities. Through targeted interventions and strategic partnerships, we aim to enhance the well-being and increase opportunities for those in mining areas.

3. Healthcare Access:

Improving access to quality healthcare services will be a cornerstone of our work. Collaborating with SMO member mines and healthcare organisations, we seek to address health disparities & promote preventive care to enhance overall well-being.

4. Community Engagement:

Facilitating meaningful engagement with local residents, empowering them to actively participate in decision-making processes and ensuring that projects are culturally sensitive and sustainable in the long term.

SMO FOUNDATION PROJECTS

MAKING CHANGE HAPPEN

Each year, we focus the weight of our fundraising efforts on three carefully selected projects, specifically chosen to provide the widest impact. Alongside numerous other charitable projects we support through the year, these core projects represent our core values.

COMMUNITY HEALTHCARE

MEDICAL TRAINING

Location: West Africa

Following Endeavour Mining’s comprehensive community health needs assessments over recent years, CCI will provide world class medical training, centred around skills transfer and sustainability, in order to facilitate the delivery of community health programmes across West Africa.

The programmes will be focussed on malaria control, maternal and neo-natal health and on child health, especially access to quality treatment, prevention of illness through immunisation and improving outcomes for pregnant women and acutely malnourished children. The outcomes of these projects are evidence-based, evaluated against externally-verified metrics and benchmarked.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION

SOIL RESTORATION

Location: Suriname

Part of the EMSAGS project titled ‘Improving Environmental Management in the Mining Sector of Suriname, with a Focus on Small-Scale Gold Mining’ this pilot project at Compagnie Kreek aims to rehabilitate an area of around 285 hectares around a former mining village in the Brokopondo district of Suriname, where small-scale mining using mercury has caused significant degradation.

The project aims to develop a comprehensive soil restoration protocol that can be utilised by local stakeholders and communities to restore degraded ASGM sites more broadly. The goal is to mitigate deforestation and mercury contamination caused by ASGM while supporting local communities in achieving food security and sustainable livel.
