In Côte d’Ivoire, Ity, our member mine is working with Université Jean Lorougnon Guédé in Daloa to establish a forest reserve within the Ity mine site. Ity mine is also funding a research program to monitor & strengthen reproduction of endangered fish from the adjacent Cavally river. In Mali, Yanfolila mine partners with Critical Care International (CCI) to improve access to health care and disease prevention among the workforce and local communities, involving annual medical checks & malaria spraying campaigns.
In 2020, the lowest incidence of malaria was recorded since the mine opened in 2017. Yanfolila funds a National Blood Bank Program with CCI collecting sizeable units of blood annually. Yanfolila is also supporting a clean water infrastructure with the introduction of 48+ water wells in surrounding communities, 14 large scale water towers & 3 deep-bore holes constructed since 2018.
In Côte d’Ivoire, Ity mine facilitates HIV & Malaria counselling & testing for employees and in 2021 reduced malaria cases by 22% in nearby communities.

At Yanfolila mine in Mali, they have developed market gardens where fruit & vegetables are grown & sold at local markets, seedlings for reafforestation programs are nurtured and then sold to the mine for planting.
Poultry farming, beekeeping & honey making, along with shea butter processing and soap manufacture are some of the alternative livelihood initiatives they have funded & introduced for the local communities.
