BERGDORF GOODMAN REDEFINES CONSCIOUS LUXURY

STYLISHLY SUSTAINABLE

Not content with providing a world class shopping experience, US retailer Bergdorf Goodman has now recognised SMO Gold as an official partner for its trailblazing ‘Conscious Curation’ offering.

First implemented in 2023, the program offers clients a unique and ever-evolving edit of global fashion, beauty and jewellery labels - including Gabriela Hearst, Stella McCartney, Diotima and Veja - that prioritise third-party social and environmental causes.

In recent years, circularity and transparency have become increasingly important to consumers, particularly with regards to the fashion industry, which saw clothing production double between the years 2000 and 2015.

Over the same period, utilisation – the number of times an item of clothing is worn before being thrown away – decreased by 36%, according to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.

There are several categories within Bergdorf Goodman’s Conscious Curation that brands can be included under, and these are assessed according to independently recognised materials, processes and certifications. Brands wishing to include their products under the category of ‘Sustainable Materials’, for example, must provide pieces composed of at least 40% sustainable, circular or vegan materials, certified by bodies such as the Global Recycled Standard or the Forest Stewardship Council.

Another vital category, ‘Responsibly Manufactured’, includes items produced using methods that go above and beyond best practice standards.

This now also includes jewellery crafted with Single Mine Origin (SMO) Gold, which ensures maximum responsibility and traceability of gold to a specific member mine. By championing positive social and environmental impact wherever it operates, SMO Gold is a mark of reassurance for jewellery lovers who wish to shop smarter and more ethically in the future.
